DALLAS—Southwest Airlines is getting its chance to take over bankrupt Frontier Airlines.
A bankruptcy court auction was scheduled Thursday.
Dallas-based Southwest on Monday offer $170 million to take Frontier out of bankruptcy protection.
Regional jet operator Republic Airways Holdings Inc. previously offered $108.8 million.
Southwest seeks to expand in Denver, where Frontier is based.
Republic will benefit from Southwest’s bid even if it loses at auction. Republic would get roughly $20 million as an unsecured creditor in Frontier’s bankruptcy. It also stands to get its $40 million debtor-in-possession loan to Frontier repaid.
