Navy Corpsman Anthony Christian Garcia, who was killed in Afghanistan on Aug. 5, will be buried in Fort Logan National Cemetery on Friday after services at Colorado Christian Fellowship Church in Aurora.
The service at the church, 10630 E. Iliff Ave., will be at 10 a.m.
Garcia, a 21-year-old Petty Officer 3rd Class, was fatally wounded when his vehicle was hit by a bomb during combat operations in Afghanistan’s Farah Province.
Garcia joined the Navy in July 2006 and reported to a base in Kaneohe, Hawaii, in February. He deployed to Afghanistan in May.
He lived in Aurora until the age of 8 and then moved to Florida. Many of his family, including his father, remain in the metro area.
His awards include the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Medal.
Survivors include his father, Anthony Garcia, and stepmother, Tina Garcia, of Aurora. He has one brother, Troy, who is in the U.S. Air Force.
Gov. Bill Ritter has ordered flags to be lowered to half staff on all state and federal buildings Friday to honor Garcia.
