DENVER—A group of animal lovers is organizing a Denver-area food drive—for pet food.
They say they want to help owners of pets and service dogs who might have to decide between feeding themselves or their animals in the down economy, or owners who may be giving their animals away because they can’t afford to care for them anymore.
About a dozen animal hospitals and clinics, as well as Mike Shaw car dealerships, are serving as collection points between Aug. 28 and Sept. 12.
The Food Bank of the Rockies is offering assistance with the drive. Food bank officials say their first priority is feeding people, but they recognize some pets are in need too.
