This week, Aspen Filmfest (Sept. 30 to Oct. 4) began unveiling its slate. And the sneak peek is fittingly robust and tantalizing for an event marking its 31st year. Announced: “Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire,” director Lee Daniels’ beautiful, unfathomably hopeful tale of a brutalized child based on Sapphire’s 1996 novel “Push.”; “An Education,” a coming-of-age film, starring Carey Mulligan as a bright young thing and Peter Sarsgaard as her older suitor; and “More Than a Game,” a coming-of-age documentary, featuring future hoops titan LeBron James.
On a related note: The prestigious New York Film Festival (Sept. 24-Oct. 11) named “Precious,” produced by Denverites Sarah Siegel-Magness and Gary Magness, its centerpiece film. The full schedule for Aspen Filmfest will be released Sept. 4. Go to . Lisa Kennedy
