LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska coach Bo Pelini said his team is still making too many mistakes in practice.
Pelini said after Saturday’s practice that he thought the team was sloppy at times. But Pelini said he also saw some good things from the Cornhuskers.
The team practiced inside Memorial Stadium for three hours Saturday in full pads, and spent the last hour of practice scrimmaging.
Pelini said he thinks quarterback Zac Lee is starting to earn the trust and confidence of his fellow offensive players. Lee is set to replace Joe Ganz as starting quarterback this fall.
Georgia Tech’s backup QB injured
ATLANTA — Georgia Tech backup quarterback Jaybo Shaw will miss at least the start of the season after breaking a collarbone during a scrimmage.
Coach Paul Johnson said Shaw is expected to miss six to eight weeks. Johnson said it was too early to speculate on the possibility Shaw could miss the season as a redshirt after playing as a true freshman in 2008.
Shaw was expected to again play behind starter Josh Nesbitt after seeing substantial playing time, including one start, last season. Shaw was 9-of-13 passing for 230 yards while starting in a 27-0 win over Duke. He also played most of the game in a 38-7 win over Mississippi State.
“It’s really unfortunate,” Johnson said of the injury. “Jaybo was playing really well and was having a good camp.”
Badgers’ safeties suspended
MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin safeties Aubrey Pleasant and Shane Carter have been suspended from the team.
Coach Bret Bielema did not say why the two seniors were being suspended. Both players have been an integral part of the Badgers’ defense.
Pleasant has made 80 career tackles during 14 starts and was listed beside safety Jay Valai for a starting slot on the most recent depth chart. Carter has made 20 starts in his career and is competing with Chris Maragos for the other starting safety position.
Gabbert looks good in scrimmage
COLUMBIA, Mo. — De’Vion Moore ran for two touchdowns and Blaine Gabbert threw a touchdown pass and added an 18-yard scoring run in Missouri’s intersquad scrimmage.
Gabbert, a sophomore who inherits the quarterback job from Chase Daniel, was 17-for-22 for 219 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Danario Alexander had seven receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown.
Marcus Malbrough had a sack and two tackles for loss.
