AURORA, Colo.—Aurora voters may not be asked whether to require police officers to seize cars driven by illegal immigrants.
A judge has ruled that a ballot measure seeking to require police to tow vehicles driven by unlicensed drivers was not valid. The petition gathered 5,278 signatures but did not include the full text of the proposed measure, as required.
The ruling means Aurora won’t join Denver in starting the requirement. Last year Denver voters passed the requirement, which is opposed by immigrant advocates and by police, who say the seizure requirement could prove burdensome.
Aurora City Council could still vote to put the measure on the ballot, but without the petition, the measure is not certain on this fall’s ballots.
