Getting your player ready...

Oklahoma City has suddenly become a haven for no-hitters in the minor leagues.

Four Colorado Springs Sky Sox pitchers combined to hold the Oklahoma City RedHawks hitless Tuesday night in the second no-hitter at the Bricktown Ballpark in five days.

Luis Mendoza of the RedHawks threw a no-hitter against Salt Lake City on Friday night.

Jhoulys Chacin got this one started by going the first 5 1/3 innings in his Triple-A debut. The Rockies had called up Chacin from Double-A Tulsa, and he made his first major-league start last week.

Joel Peralta got the final two outs of the sixth inning, Juan Rincon threw two perfect innings, and Randy Flores finished off the 5-0 victory with a perfect ninth inning.

It was the fourth no-hitter in Sky Sox history.

Sky Sox third baseman Christian Colonel went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

DU the choice for Sun Belt title.

University of Denver women’s soccer players Lizzy Carlson, Mariah Johnston (Columbine High School) and Jessie Rogers (Poudre), were chosen for the Sun Belt Conference preseason all-conference team, and the coaches picked the Pioneers to repeat and win their fourth consecutive league title.

Metro, Fort Lewis top picks.

Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference soccer coaches believe the Metro State women will win their eighth consecutive league championship, and that the Fort Lewis men will defend their title.

Metro State received nine of 11 first-place votes in the annual preseason coaches poll, and placed three on the preseason all-RMAC team, including Becca Mays, the choice for player of the year. Regis received one first-place vote and was the choice for runner-up. Colorado Mines got the remaining first-place vote and is tabbed for a third-place tie with Fort Lewis.

The Skyhawks men got six of eight first-place votes, followed by Metro State and Colorado Mines, which each had one vote for the top spot. Metro State qualified for last season’s NCAA Tournament. The Roadrunners’ Steven Emory, from Fort Collins High School, was the choice for player of the year.

Altitude goes high-def.

The Altitude cable television network will launch a high-definition channel later this year and will broadcast all Nuggets and Avalanche games in HD, said the company’s chief operating officer, Matt Hutchings.

Fox Sports Rocky Mountain, the other area regional sports network, already airs Rockies games in HD.
