A driver who drove the wrong way on Interstate 25 north of Denver and died in the resulting 10-car crash has been identified by police.

David S. Ulwelling, 48, of Broomfield died in the multicar accident Monday night, Northglenn police said today.

Ulwelling was driving south in the northbound lanes at about 7:10 p.m.

Witnesses told investigators that Ulwelling, driving a Jeep Liberty, got onto the highway using the northbound RTD bus off-ramp that goes under I-25 near 117th Avenue.

The Liberty hit a Ford F-150 that was pulling a trailer north of 104th Avenue, and several other cars got caught up in the collision, police said.

Three people injured have been released from the hospital after being treated for minor injuries, police said.

Police are investigating the fatal crash and ask witnesses to call 303-450-8893.

Toxicology reports on Ulwelling should be complete in about 10 to 14 days, police said.
