COLORADO WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL: Gov. Bill Ritter appointed Roger Smith as the new chairman of the council that advises Ritter and the Colorado Legislature on matters related to the Workforce Investment Act. Smith is vice president of human resources for HCA-HealthOne LLC and the HCA Continental Division.

HEALTH RESOURCES AND SERVICES ADMINISTRATION: Awarded an $881,993 grant to Mary Weber, an associate professor at the University of Colorado Denver College of Nursing and option coordinator for the college’s Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner master’s program, to provide high-quality mental-health care in rural and medically underserved urban areas.

J.R. BUTLER INC.: Hired Carle Abernathy as director of sales.

CITY AND MOUNTAIN VIEWS MAGAZINE: Named Seniors’ Resource Center president/chief executive John Zabawa as one of Jefferson County’s 150 Most Contributing Citizens from 1859 to 2009.

GRANT THORNTON LLP: The Denver office hired Cari Bayens as marketing manager.

CASTLE ROCK ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL: Hired Frank Gray IV as president and chief executive.

RED ROCKS CREDIT UNION: Appointed Russ Dalke as chief financial officer.

THE MICHAEL J. FOX FOUNDATION: Awarded Dr. Curt Freed, an Anschutz Medical Campus researcher, a grant for testing a new clinical strategy for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES: Announced that petroleum-engineering interim department head and professor Ramona Graves and professor Erdal Ozkan were recently selected as recipients of the 2009 Society of Petroleum Engineers Distinguished Membership.
