Make a list
It’s that time of year when fashion directors make their official pronouncements of the season’s must-haves. Add a hot trend or two to your wardrobe and you’ll be up to date. Here’s what Neiman Marcus style aficionado Ken Downing says women will want to add to their fall wardrobes:
1. Red
2. Leopard
3. Leggings
4. Motorcycle jackets
5. Metallic shoes
6. Cozy knits
7. Accentuated shoulders
8. Accessories with hardware
9. Major black dresses
10. High-impact jewelry
Neiman’s Cherry Creek store is having its trend spotlight weekend today through Sunday. Customers who spend $350 will get a Jay Strongwater picture frame, in leopard, naturally. Neiman Marcus, 303 E. First Ave., 303-329-2600
Nina’s notions
In the fashion world, Nina Garcia is known as the savvy and sharp fashion director who a year ago made the move from Elle magazine to Marie Claire. In the entertainment and larger fashion universe, she’s known as the sharp-tongued judge on “Project Runway,” which starts its new season tonight on a new network, Lifetime. Not one to be lazy, she’s also managed to write a third fashion advice book, “The Style Strategy: A Less is More Approach to Staying Chic and Shopping Smart” (It Books, $21.99). Illustrated by Ruben Toledo, the tome guides readers on how to take stock of what they own, determine what they need and realize what they want in their wardrobes to develop their personal style. She includes mass-market resources, as well as the high fashion ones, which makes her advice accessible to a wide range of fashion lovers.
Kids stuff
We’ve always felt that Crocs, like Trix cereal, were for kids. So it makes sense that their back-to-school style assortment is a yummy mix that includes styles like Sophia (shown), $30, in such colors as bubblegum and rose; or McKenzie, $35, a Mary Jane that comes with a rhinestone charm. The company also is offering a Color My Crocs Contest. For each pair sold through Aug. 31, consumers get a croc-a-doodles kit that they can use to custom design a pair of Crocs and then send in a picture to compete for such prizes as a pair of Crocs for a year for each member of their family.
