BOULDER — Choosing a starting quarterback is about like trying to find the right match while dating, Colorado offensive coordinator Eric Kiesau agreed tonight following a closed two-hour scrimmage on Folsom Field. “We’ll just know,” he said.

Statistics from the scrimmage will not be made public, but coaches said both quarterbacks moved the offense.

“I’ll have to evaluate the film,” Kiesau said. “But off-hand, both had no turnovers, moved the team, had a couple of touchdowns — it’s going to be a tough call.”

Kiesau said no timetable has been set for picking between junior Cody Hawkins and sophomore Tyler Hansen. Complicating the decision-making process, perhaps, was the fact that neither committed a turnover in the scrimmage.

Coach Dan Hawkins said he is “not in a big rush” to name a starting quarterback, although he added the two-deep should be pretty well set before the final preseason scrimmage on Aug. 29.
