Apple Inc. was sued for more than $2 million by a National Geographic photographer who claims a television and movie-guide application for the iPhone uses his copyrighted image.

Louis Psihoyos of Colorado sued Thursday in New York, saying he is the owner of an image used on the i.TV application for the Apple iPhone that provides users with up-to-date information on television shows and movies.

The dispute is over a photograph called “1000 TVs,” which is used in advertisements. The photo was shot for National Geographic in 1995.
