A driver who crashed into the Centennial city hall is being investigated for driving under the influence, authorities said.

Matthew Higgins, 29, of Parker, was driving a pick-up truck that was involved in a three-car accident at about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday on Arapahoe Road at Revere Parkway, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.

After colliding with two cars, the pick-up plowed about 200 yards through an open field, at about 40 mph, and crashed into the Centennial Civic Center building.

Higgins was taken to Swedish Medical Center in Englewood. A person in one of the two cars was slightly injured in the collision, the sheriff’s office said.

Higgins has been released from the hospital.

Investigators suspect Higgins was under the influence of alcohol, said Sheriff Grayson Robinson.

The sheriff’s office is awaiting the return of toxicology tests, Robinson said, which should take about 10 to 14 days.

The crash caused significant damage to the building, Robinson said, when a water pipe ruptured and the city’s planning office flooded.
