NAPA, Calif. — The bizarre incident involving a Raiders coach allegedly assaulting another member of the team’s staff took a dramatic turn Thursday with a report that head coach Tom Cable choked defensive assistant Randy Hanson and threatened his life.

posted the story, citing unnamed sources, Thursday. The story also said Hanson has retained an attorney who will turn over medical records to Napa police today showing Hanson’s jaw is broken.

According to the story, Cable attacked Hanson from behind while Hanson was engaged in a heated conversation with defensive coordinator John Marshall on Aug. 5. The story said Cable knocked Hanson out of his chair, up against a wall and into a cabinet in a meeting.

The story added that Cable and Hanson fell to the floor, at which point Cable choked Hanson and said: “I am going to kill you! I am going to kill you!”

“We’re still going to take care of it internally,” Cable said. “The one thing I will tell you is, when all the facts come out, everything will be fine.”

Roethlisberger injured

LATROBE, Pa. — Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger injured his right ankle or foot during the last half-hour of the team’s final training camp practice. It was not immediately certain how badly he was hurt or how long he would be sidelined.

Roethlisberger had an ice pack on the back of the ankle when he was carted off at the end of the workout, with offensive coordinator Bruce Arians accompanying him. Roethlisberger didn’t talk to reporters, but he could be overheard saying: “Oh, it just feels great. It feels like a car ran over it.”

Seattle’s Jones has surgery

RENTON, Wash. — The second knee surgery in eight months for Seahawks nine-time Pro Bowl left tackle Walter Jones has removed loose fragments, including scar tissue from the original surgery.

It hasn’t removed doubt whether Jones will be able to play in the first few games, if at all this season. His rehabilitation will begin immediately.

Ochocinco does it all

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Chad Ochocinco added another wrinkle to his colorful career by kicking an extra point in Cincinnati’s 7-6 victory over the Patriots.

Cincinnati’s all-time leader in catches and yards receiving connected after the Bengals’ first-half touchdown as coach Marvin Lewis held out Shayne Graham as a precaution because of a groin injury. Ochocinco also kicked off to start the second half.

” ‘Esteban’ Ochocinco is back, the most interesting footballer in the world,” Ochocinco said.
