A retired officer with the Colorado State Patrol died in a motorcycle accident over the weekend in southwestern Colorado.

Robert “Bob” Habliston, 70, was driving a Harley Davidson southbound on U.S. 550 in Ouray County on Saturday when he lost control of the bike, rolled it and collided with two oncoming motorcycles.

Habliston had crested an incline and swerved to avoid a vehicle making a left turn off the highway, said Trooper Ryan Sullivan, a spokesman with the State Patrol.

The two other motorcyclists were injured, one seriously, Sullivan said.

Habliston served more than 28 years with the State Patrol, including 12 years as commander of the Western Slope.
