There won’t be any suspensions in the wake of Monday night’s postgame run-in between several Rockies and the game’s umpiring crew.
Wednesday afternoon, manager Jim Tracy talked to Bob Watson, Major League Baseball’s director of on-field operations, and was assured no Rockies players would miss any games. Nor will any of the umpires involved be suspended.
Fines, however, are possible.
“I don’t think there will be suspensions on either side,” Tracy said. “Quite frankly, I was extremely pleased to hear that, because I think this is something that you have the conversation (about) and then you put it behind you.”
At the conclusion of the Rockies’ dramatic 14-inning, 6-4 victory over the Giants on Monday, several Rockies alleged that second-base umpire Bill Miller called Yorvit Torrealba a derogatory name while the catcher was running the bases late in the game.
Torrealba, shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, closer Huston Street and pitching coach Bob Apodaca all had angry words with members of the crew.
CarGo update.
Outfielder Carlos Gonzalez took cuts in the indoor batting cage and should be ready to play in today’s series finale against the Dodgers.
Gonzalez suffered a puncture wound to his left hand Saturday night when he caught a falling steak knife. He’s had only two at-bats since, but had a nifty bunt single in the Rockies’ victory Tuesday night.
Footnotes.
Dexter Fowler (bruised knee) won’t make the weekend trip to San Francisco. The Rockies are trying to keep him off his feet as much as possible for a few more days. . . . Pitching prospect Parker Frazier (Single-A Asheville), the son of Rockies television analyst George Frazier, has a tear in the flexor tendon of his left elbow. He will be examined today by Dr. Thomas Noonan, the Rockies’ medical director. Frazier, 20, likely faces surgery and a nine-month recovery. He went 10-7 with a 4.48 ERA in 23 starts for the Tourists, with 33 walks and 98 strikeouts in 130 2/3 innings.
