Getting your player ready...

Can you say Gold Glove? First baseman Todd Helton turned in perhaps his finest play of the season in the seventh inning. Randy Winn drove the ball down the right-field line and it skipped off the first-base bag. Helton stayed with it, making a diving snag and tossing the ball to pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez covering first. Even Giants fans applauded Helton’s gem.

Cut down.

Troy Tulowitzki entered the game with a career-high 16 stolen bases, but he was thrown out twice by Giants catcher Eli Whiteside. In the second, Whiteside erased him at second, completing a double play as Brad Hawpe struck out. In the fourth, Whiteside cut Tulowit- zki down with a perfect throw.

Eight-foot double.

In a moment that’s sure to make a baseball blooper highlight reel, the Giants’ Juan Uribe hit a towering wind-blow popup in the fourth. The ball went nearly straight up, landing about 8 feet from home plate as catcher Chris Iannetta, Jimenez and third baseman Ian Stewart looked on.
