Labor Day in Creede

Creede’s Labor Day Weekend Celebration, which includes a Salsa Fiesta and performances at the Creede Repertory Theatre, begins at 9 a.m. Saturday with the Creede Mountain Run. Participants can enjoy the breathtaking San Juan Mountains on 2-, 12- or 22-mile races, which feature a challenging climb from 8,950 feet to 12,500 feet in elevation. Brew and chili fest.

Mount Crested Butte’s annual Fall Festival of Beers and Chili Cook-Off will be Sept. 12 at the base of Crested Butte Mountain Resort ski area. From noon to 2 p.m., sample chili prepared by area cook- off contestants; from noon to 4 p.m., cool off with area microbrewery beers; help select “Crested Butte’s Favorites” in a range of beer categories.Cash prizes are awarded for the best chili. There will also be music by Mountain Standard Time and Sol’ Jibe; special guest with both bands is Drew Emmitt. The Beer and Chili Dash and Dine 10K Fun Run start with registration at 10 a.m. at the ski-area base, followed by an 11 a.m. start.
