GRAND JUNCTION — A flag thief in Mesa County has been sentenced to 30 days’ house arrest.
Troy Milam did not contest charges of stealing a world peace flag last year. Milam was sentenced to a month’s home detention Friday by Mesa County District Court Judge Bruce Raaum.
Raaum equated Milam’s actions to someone running into the back of another person’s car simply because they did not like their bumper sticker.
Before being sentenced, Milam apologized but called the flag “anti-American.” The flag owner called the sentence a victory for free speech.
