The Pam Wagner Memorial Birding Trail at the Ramah State Wildlife Area will be dedicated at 3 p.m. on Sept. 9.

The dedication will include placing a monument at the trailhead and planting a memorial tree in Wagner’s honor.

Wagner worked in state government for 25 years until her death Aug. 2, 2008, after a five-year battle with cancer. During the final years of her career with the Colorado Division of Wildlife, Wagner worked at the state Capitol as the agency’s legislative liaison. She was a strong advocate for wildlife and conservation issues who was known for her ability to communicate with a wide array of constituents.

The Pam Wagner Birding Trail is actually two trails that meander through the wooded portions on the west end of the Ramah State Wildlife Area. The property is located 4 miles east of the town of Ramah in eastern El Paso County.

The ceremonies are open to the public. For more information, contact the Colorado Springs office of the Division of Wildlife at 719-227-5200.

Big-game reminders.

Colorado’s big-game hunting season is almost here. As hunters prepare in the weeks ahead, the Colorado Division of Wildlife reminds hunters to be aware of the following items before entering the field:

• Beginning this year, chronic wasting disease (CWD) testing is $25 at all Division of Wildlife submission sites. The DOW has increased hunter testing fees to help cover a larger share of the costs associated with the CWD testing program.

Testing is voluntary for elk and deer in all game management units for the 2009-10 seasons. Moose testing for CWD is mandatory statewide and is free.

• Big-game licenses are still available for the upcoming seasons. Leftover and general over-the-counter licenses, as well as over-the-counter bear licenses and turkey licenses (with caps), are available for purchase online at www.wildlife.state.co.us, or by calling 800-244-5613.
