Gov. Bill Ritter, a Democrat, announced Monday his office had launched the Transparency Online Project, a website that Ritter said would give Coloradans “a new standard for accountability, responsibility and transparency.”

The site, , has buttons that allow visitors to search income sources for the state, department budgets and expenditures.

The site is useful for some basic breakdowns of the budget, but following the money will quickly lead many readers to confusing government terms such as “reappropriated transfers,” “intergovernmental distribution” and “H.Ed Capitalization clearing.”
