University of Colorado police are laying down the law for Sunday night’s game, with a strict ban on fruit, booze, cans and glass bottles.
Campus police urged fans to represent their schools with class, “especially around families with children and opposing fans.”
Fans who show up at Folsom Field intoxicated won’t get in, and those whose rowdiness crosses the threshold from team spirit into disruptiveness or threats could go to jail, get booted from the game and possibly get banned from future games, CU police warned.
“Our goal is to maintain a safe and enjoyable stadium environment for all of the fans attending the game,” CU Police Chief Joe Roy said in a statement. “We’d like everybody to enjoy the game without disturbances and unsafe distractions created by other fans.”
Anyone under 21 caught drinking or drunk will be charged and issued a court summons, police said. The respective universities could take further action against students who are convicted.
“In our experience there has been a correlation between excessive alcohol consumption and dangerous behavior in the stadium and after the game,” Roy said. “We won’t turn a blind eye to alcohol possession or abuse.”
Ice chests will be turned away, but each fan can bring in one plastic water bottle, as long as it is 2 liters or less.
A hotline is available to fans to report offensive behavior: 303-735-2833.
