Midfielder Kelli Breidenbach took a through-pass from Mariah Johnson, got behind the Colgate defense and scored 2:40 into the second overtime to give the University of Denver women’s soccer team a 1-0 win Sunday in the Colorado Classic at Prentup Field in Boulder. DU (3-1-1) outshot the Raiders 23-4 and went to overtime for a third consecutive game.
Ducks defeat Buffs in soccer.
Oregon used two unassisted goals from Jen Stoltenberg to upset No. 15 Colorado 2-1 in the final game of the CU Classic. The Buffaloes (3-2) got a goal from Shaye Marshall in the 67th minute but couldn’t rally against the Ducks.
Duke blanks DU.
The Duke men’s soccer team broke a scoreless tie in the 69th minute on a goal from Cole Grossman and went on to defeat Denver 2-0 in the Duke Classic in Durham, N.C. DU fell to 0-2.
Major win for Metro State.
The 23rd-ranked Metro State volleyball team upset visiting No. 3 West Texas A&M on Saturday, winning in five sets 22-25, 25-18, 23-25, 25-22, 15-10. It was the 400th victory of Road- runners coach Debbie Hendricks’ career. She is the 20th active coach in Division II to reach 400 wins.
