ASPEN, Colo.—Some campgrounds in the Aspen area will stay open a little longer this year, after numerous requests for the sites to stay open during the fall color season.
The Weller, Lost Man and Lincoln Gulch campgrounds up Independence Pass will stay open through Sept. 27 instead of closing right after Labor Day Weekend.
Difficult Campground also will be open through Sept. 27, one week later than originally planned.
Mike Kenealy of the White River National Forest supervisor’s office in Glenwood Springs says U.S. Forest Service officials negotiated the longer season with the contractor managing the campgrounds. Kenealy says officials will consider keeping the longer season if the campgrounds are used.
