BROOMFIELD — Investigators say a huge pile of yard waste in Broomfield that was consumed by fire may have been torched by an arsonist.
The fire, reported at 4 a.m. Tuesday, shot flames 60 feet in the air. Because the pile of trees, branches and shrubs near the Eco-Cycle recycling yard was unstable, firefighters decided to let the fire burn itself out.
“It was a very dense, large pile, so it’s going to be there for a while longer,” said North Metro Fire Rescue District spokeswoman Wendy Forbes.
