AURORA — Bill Reader, commissioner of the Colorado High School Activities Association, announced Monday that he will retire at the end of the school year.
“There’s nothing that compares to high school competition,” Reader said. “I have a year left in what has been an extremely rewarding and fulfilling career. We have one of the best jobs and it has been a privilege to work every day with high school educators — superintendents, principals, athletic directors, coaches and activities directors. These people don’t realize how much they do for young people.”
With the CHSAA since 1988, Reader has served the past eight as commissioner. He took over for Bob Ottewill and is the organization’s seventh head.
Earlier, Reader was at Delta, Englewood and Glenwood Springs high schools and is a former president of the National Federation of State High School Organizations. He is a graduate of Broomfield High School and Fort Lewis College, and earned masters’ (Colorado State) and doctorate (University of Colorado) degrees.
No word on his successor. The current associate commissioner is Paul Angelico.
