The University of Colorado will break ground today on a new biotechnology facility on the Boulder campus, where researchers will study health issues such as cancer, aging, cardiovascular disease, vaccine development and tissue engineering.

The Jennie Smoly Caruthers Biotechnology Building will offer an opportunity for a wide variety of researchers to collaborate, said CU-Boulder distinguished professor and Nobel Prize laureate Tom Cech.

The 257,000-square-foot first phase is set to be done in the fall of 2011.
