RENO, Nev. — The lawyer for a former Nevada casino worker who has accused Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger of sexually assaulting her said his client will drop her civil lawsuit if he acknowledges the rape and apologizes.

Attorney Cal Dunlap said in a letter to Roethlisberger’s lawyers that his client would also like the quarterback to donate $100,000 to the Committee to Aid Abused Women, a Reno nonprofit organization.

The woman filed the suit in July accusing the Super Bowl-winning quarterback of assaulting her in 2008 in a hotel across the street from a golf course where he was playing in a celebrity tournament.

Dunlap said the offer is designed to counter claims made by Roethlisberger’s lawyers that his client only filed the lawsuit to get money.

Seymour remains a no-show

ALAMEDA, Calif. — Richard Seymour failed to report to the Raiders for a second straight day after being traded from the Patriots.

“I really have nothing to report on that,” Raiders coach Tom Cable said. “Nothing has changed at this point.”

Seymour, a five-time Pro Bowl defensive end, was acquired from the Patriots on Sunday in exchange for Oakland’s first-round draft pick in 2011.

Cable declined to discuss reports the two sides were in talks on a new contract.

“I don’t want to comment about anything of that until we have something that’s done and concrete,” Cable said.

Vikings defensive tackles cleared for opener

MINNEAPOLIS — Vikings defensive tackles Kevin and Pat Williams will be able to play Sunday at Cleveland, regardless of what happens with their court case against the NFL.

The Williamses, who are not related, are challenging four-game suspensions handed down by the league for violating the league’s drug policy last summer. The case is still tied up in court, but NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the suspensions will not begin this weekend in any event.

Footnotes.
