BROOMFIELD, Colo.—Firefighters say a fire in pile of dead trees and shrubbery at a Broomfield recycling center appears suspicious.
No structures were threatened by the blaze, which started before dawn Tuesday in a fenced area in a pile of wood on some dirt. Firefighters were still mopping up the scene several hours later.
North Metro Fire District spokeswoman Wendy Forbes says firefighters won’t be able to start investigating what caused the fire until flames are out, but she says the fire appears suspicious, given the time the fire started and that it was in an area with no electrical hazards.
