FORT CARSON, Colo.—The Defense Department says a Colorado-based soldier has died from wounds he suffered in combat in Afghanistan.
The military announced Thursday that 28-year-old Sgt. Youvert Loney of Pohnpei, Micronesia, died Sept. 5 in Abad, Afghanistan.
He was wounded when enemy forces using small arms and recoilless rifle fires attacked his vehicle while he was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
The military says Loney had been awarded the Purple Heart before, and had previously served in Iraq. Loney had also received the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge.
Youney was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.
