Getting your player ready...

For Georgia Imhoff, big things came in such a small package.

Imhoff, the diminutive wife of financial-services czar Walt Imhoff, died Sunday after a massive heart attack while she was fighting pancreatic cancer that had spread to her liver. She will be missed as such a sweet soul and a tireless fundraiser for local charities including the Kempe Children’s Foundation for the prevention and treatment of child abuse.

I first met Walt and Georgia more than 10 years ago during my first stint as a business-news reporter at The Denver Post. The cute couple were devoted readers of The Post and the Rocky Mountain News and followed my career move from The Post to the Rocky as the On the Town columnist.

When the Rocky’s future turned shaky, the Imhoffs wanted to make sure I would be all right and would maintain a voice in this community. Recently on several occasions, Walt and Georgia congratulated me on my newspaper survival and showed their support for my new venture.

Although she never wanted to “bother” me during an event, Georgia always gave me a shy smile and a friendly hug. And she never bothered me — that would have been impossible.

This sweet woman will be laid to rest at 11 a.m. Saturday at Church of the Risen Christ, 3060 S. Monaco Parkway. A motorcade will proceed to Mount Olivet Cemetery, followed by a reception at Larry DiPasquale’s Mangia Bevi restaurant next to Fiddler’s Green in Greenwood Village.

Radio daze. Former Broncos wide receiver Ed McCaffrey gets another radio gig as guest broadcaster alongside Dave Logan beginning at 8 a.m. Sunday on KOA-850 AM before the Broncos’ season-opening game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

I told you last month that McCaffrey will also be a regular voice at 8:30 a.m. Tuesdays on “The Insiders” with hosts Vic Lombardi and Gary Miller on KEPN-1600 AM starting Tuesday and running through the football season.

Player pro. Kyle Heyen, a Professional Golfers’ Association head pro since 1985 at Hiwan Golf Club in Evergreen, has been named the recipient of the 2009 PGA President’s Plaque for “extraordinary and exemplary contributions in player development.”

Heyen, 52, is a 27-year member of the PGA of America and is the first member of the Colorado PGA Section to receive the President’s Plaque, established in 1982.

Pleasant parking. What took them so long? Maggiano’s Little Italy in the Denver Pavilions is finally subsidizing parking by allowing restaurant guests to park in the building’s underground garage for $2 from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday.

Diners need to ask their server to validate the parking stub.

Eavesdropping. A woman to a man at the Milwaukee Tavern: “It was a bad thing that you moved downtown. There are so many things to do down there, you never see your wife.”

“What’s wrong with that?”
