A 31-year-old man faces charges in the death of a popular legal secretary who died after he ran a stop sign and crashed into her car, police said Friday.
Cesar Acosta-Castillo faces charges including vehicular homicide in the death of Leah Rochelle Miller, 45, of Denver.
Miller died early Thursday after being injured in the accident on Wednesday night.
Miller worked at the law firm, Holme, Roberts & Owen. She had worked many years for the firm of Musgrave & Theis, until it merged in 2006 with HRO.
The firm issued a statement Thursday afternoon: “This is a tragedy for our firm, and we are devastated. Leah was a much-loved member of the HRO family and will be greatly missed.”
Daniel Quillen, a spokesman for the firm, said she is survived by a teenage son, a large extended family and many close friends.
Police said Acosta-Castillo was driving north on Monaco Boulevard Wednesday evening when he struck another northbound car in the 2200 block. Acosta-Castillo then fled the scene, turning east on 23rd Avenue, then north on Magnolia Street.
He ran the stop sign at 26th Avenue and struck Miller broadside, killing her.
She was driving a Toyota Camry westbound on 26th.
Acosta-Castillo will be charged with vehicular homicide, driving under the influence and reckless driving resulting in death.
