Stokley’s savvy play:
After the turbulent offseason, the Broncos were ready for a good bounce. They got it when Brandon Stokley snagged a deflected pass and raced more than 50 yards for the winning touchdown.
New-look defense:
The Broncos’ new 3-4 defense held the Bengals scoreless through 59 minutes and recorded three sacks and two interceptions.
Prater perfect:
Until the late touchdown, kicker Matt Prater provided all the points with his 48- and 50-yard field goals. Prater also was perfect in the preseason.

No offense taken
Sluggish offense:
The Broncos’ offense couldn’t find the end zone for 59-plus minutes and had eight drives end in punts and two in field goals. That won’t be good enough against better teams.
Bengals’ long drive:
After playing so well for 3 1/2 quarters, the defense allowed Carson Palmer to lead the Bengals on an 11-play, 91-yard drive to take a 7-6 lead in the final minute.
Slippery fingers:
The Broncos dropped too many passes, including two by Brandon Marshall, one by Stokley and one by Peyton Hillis.
