KERSEY, Colo.—The town of Kersey is laying off one of its four police officers amid budget constraints.

Town Administrator Tracey McCoy says tax collections are expected to fall in the next budget year. McCoy says revenues generated by the oil and gas industry are expected to drop, and some property values have fallen by up to 20 percent.

The town also has reduced a full-time senior center coordinator position to part-time without benefits.

Both moves are expected to save about $70,000 in salary and benefits. The town’s total budget wasn’t immediately available Sunday.

McCoy says Kersey operated with three full-time police officers for years. The fourth was hired a few years ago for the Weld County town of about 1,500 people.
