HOPKINSVILLE, Ky.—A Tennessee man is facing assault charges in Kentucky after being accused of veering his sport utility vehicle into the path of a tractor-trailer carrying two Colorado residents.
Kentucky State Police say that Martin A. Marquez Jr. of Dover, Tenn., fled on foot after the head-on crash early Sunday in western Kentucky. He was later found walking along Interstate 24 near the crash site. State police say the 27-year-old Marquez was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree assault.
Marquez was not injured in the crash and was being held in the Christian County jail.
The two people in the tractor-trailer—46-year-old Hamilton Troche Jr. and 45-year-old Nanette Marie Furlong, both of Denver—were taken to a nearby hospital, where they were treated and released.
Police say Marquez pulled his SUV onto the right shoulder of I-24, then made a U-turn into oncoming traffic, causing the crash. The interstate was shut down for about seven hours after the crash.
