Mama bears and their cubs kept wildlife officials in north Boulder and near the Weld County town of Johnstown watching Tuesday.

A bear and two cubs spent several hours in a backyard cottonwood tree east of Broadway in Boulder.

On properties nearer to the foothills, officials sometimes chase the bears back to the wild, said open space ranger Pete Taylor. But chasing bears across Broadway could be dangerous to animals and drivers.
