Highlands Ranch’s Rob Hunt fired a final-round 68 on Wednesday to finish an impressive three-round run through the Colorado PGA Professional Championships at Colorado National Golf Club.

Hunt, who plays out of The Links Golf Course, carded 67-67-68 to finish at 14-under-par 202, winning by four strokes over Mead’s Tray Shehee and Erie’s Matt Schalk.

Shehee, of Ute Creek, also shot 68 in the final round to move into a tie with Colorado National’s Schalk at 206. Hunt, a former standout at Arvada West High School, won the $5,750 winner’s purse.

Eaton ousted at Senior Amateur.

Greeley’s Kim Eaton met her end at the USGA Senior Women’s Amateur after Robyn Puckett of Irvine, Calif., won their quarterfinal match 1-up at the Cascades Course at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Va.

Puckett then lost in the semifinal round to Sherry Herman of Farmingdale, N.J., over 19 holes. Herman will face Dallas’ Carolyn Creekmore in today’s championship match.

Tenth-ranked Cyclones top CU spikers.

The No. 10 Iowa State volleyball team opened the Big 12 Conference season by sweeping Colorado in three games at Ames, Iowa. Iowa State (9-1) won 25-18, 25-14, 25-13, despite Rosie Steinhaus’ nine kills for Colorado (5-5). Becah Fogle added eight kills for the Buffs.

Eagles add two rookies.

The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League added two rookie forwards to their roster: Shane Foster, from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point; and Tyler Barr, who played last year for the Merritt Centennials of the British Columbia Hockey League.
