A 25-year-old man who just completed a sentence for shoplifting and disturbing the peace hanged himself late Thursday at the Denver County Jail while waiting extradition to Kansas on a drug charge.
The man was identified as Thomas Allen Barton.
According to Capt. Frank Gale of the Denver Sheriff’s Department, deputies found Barton in his cell at 4:48 p.m. Gale said that the last suicide at the jail occurred 326 days ago, and during that time deputies have prevented 14 suicide attempts by inmates.
