A schedule loaded with top-ranked teams hasn’t been kind to the University of Colorado women’s soccer team. The Buffaloes lost their second consecutive game Sunday, a 1-0 overtime decision to No. 12 Santa Clara at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.
No. 23 Colorado (4-5) is now 1-4 against Top 25 teams, including a 4-0 loss to No. 3 Stanford on Friday.
Santa Clara got the game-winner in the 99th minute when Kiki Bosio headed in a corner kick. Santa Clara (7-2) outshot CU 27-3, as Buffaloes goalkeeper Kara Linder kept the Buffs close with seven saves.
Springs’ Harrington bests mid-amateurs.
Colorado Springs’ Michael Harrington, playing out of Kissing Camels, eagled the 567-yard 11th hole en route to a three-stroke victory in the Colorado Golf Association Mid-Amateur Championship at River Valley Ranch in Carbondale.
Harrington had a 3-under-par 69 in the final round and finished at 6-under 210 to overtake Alex Buecking of Columbine C.C. at 213. Buecking, who led by two strokes after the second round, shot 74 on Sunday.
Denver soccer falls to Oregon State.
The Oregon State women’s soccer team (7-1-0) scored twice in the second half to defeat visiting Denver 3-1 in Corvallis, Ore. Senior defender Emily Stewart scored her first career goal to give Denver (5-3-1) an early lead.
AFA goalkeepers team up for shutout.
Air Force goalkeepers Charity Blanton and Ariana Green combined for a shutout as the Falcons women’s soccer team (2-6-1) got a 1-0 victory over visiting New Hampshire (1-6-1). Bridgett Murphy scored the game-winner in the 77th minute.
Pueblo’s Peek wins all-around at Pendleton rodeo.
Pueblo’s Josh Peek won the all-around title Saturday at the historic Pendleton Round-Up Rodeo in Oregon. The 30-year-old Peek was bolstered by winning the tie-down roping and steer-wrestling competitions.
