An Aurora man has been arrested after collecting money related to bogus fire-safety inspections, police said.
Richard La Croix, 55, inspected fire extinguishers at several Broomfield businesses and charged a fee, according to a media release from the Broomfield Police Department.
But La Croix misrepresented himself and had no legitimate business, police said.
La Croix was arrested Friday on suspicion of theft and criminal impersonation, police said.
The suspect told victims he worked for National Fire Extinguisher Service and wore clothing that had a “fire department logo” on it, police said.
Investigators suspect La Croix of duping at least six Broomfield businesses, and he may have other victims in the metro area.
Anyone with information on the alleged scam or those who believe they may have been victimized are asked to call Detective Bruce Fitzgerald at 303-438-6455.
Information on this case, or other suspected crimes, also can be forwarded to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or .
