NUNN, Colo.—Tensions are so high among Nunn town leaders that a professional mediator who offered his services to the fractured group says he decided to “get out of Dodge” while he could.
Petitions have been circulating in the Weld County town 80 miles north of Denver to recall two sets of town board members. Bryan Jex is the only one of the seven board members not the subject of a recall effort.
Personal feuds and allegations of physical threats have fueled the disagreements.
Town Clerk Tori McMechan will decide whether there are enough valid signatures on the petitions for recall elections. Critics have challenged her objectivity, saying she signed petitions.
Professional mediator Craig Conrad submitted a proposal to negotiate the town’s issues, but says he bowed out after hostile behavior from the crowd during a recent meeting.
