Tarzan, a member of Cripple Creek’s storied donkey herd, has been found safe after a two-week absence.
His disappearance, coupled with the recent unsolved gunshot wound suffered by Sweetpea, another member of the herd, had left Cripple Creek residents worried about the safety of the remaining 10 donkeys, which represent the droves that once worked in the mines that surround this small town. But Wednesday, a rancher about 5 miles from town called to say a burro was hanging around with some of his horses. It was Tarzan.
Sweetpea, shot in the left flank, is under a veterinarian’s care. A $500 reward is offered for information about Sweetpea’s shooting. Tips should go to the Cripple Creek Police Department or the Two Mile High Club (twomilehighclub@gmail.com; 719-689-3315), which cares for the donkeys. Claire Martin, The Denver Post
