The Indonesian gold and copper mine of Denver-based Newmont Mining Corp. remained closed Wed nesday after a rock slide last week, a spokesman said.
A crack in the mine wall was detected by an electronic monitoring system, and everyone was evacuated before the collapse at Batu Hijau on Friday, said Rubi Purnomo, a spokesman for the Indonesian subsidiary.
