IDAHO SPRINGS — The highway to the summit of Colorado’s 14,264-foot Mount Evans has closed for the season.
State officials announced the closure of Colorado 5 on Wednesday. It’s billed as North America’s highest paved highway.
Two other scenic Colorado highways remain open for the time being: Trail Ridge Road, which reaches more than 12,000 feet above sea level in Rocky Mountain National Park, and Colorado 82 between Leadville and Aspen, which reaches more than 12,000 feet on Independence Pass.
Trail Ridge Road ranged from wet to snowy or icy Wednesday. Colorado 82 was wet with scattered showers. The Associated Press
