A Greeley man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for robbing a convenience store with a gun.

Antonio Janis, 33, pleaded guilty to armed robbery on July 24, according to a media release from the Weld County district attorney’s office.

Janis had three felony convictions prior to the most recent armed-robbery plea, prosecutors said.

Armed with a handgun, Janis robbed the store on Oct. 28. According to the release, Janis entered the store and told the clerk to “give him” a cigarette lighter because he didn’t have the money to pay for it.

Janis, who just had 60 cents, wanted to buy a 98-cent candy bar, and the clerk said she’d pay the difference.

As the clerk counted the change Janis had given her, he pulled out a handgun and screamed: “Give me the damn lighter,” the release said.

Janis also robbed $120 from the clerk before fleeing the store.

Police arrested him 10 days later.

Janis was sentenced Thursday in District Court in Weld County.
