A Greeley man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for robbing a convenience store with a gun.
Antonio Janis, 33, pleaded guilty on July 24 to armed robbery, according to the Weld County district attorney’s office.
Janis had three felony convictions prior to the most recent armed- robbery plea, prosecutors said.
Armed with a handgun, Janis robbed the store on Oct. 29, 2008. According to a DA news release, Janis entered the store and told the clerk to “give him” a cigarette lighter because he didn’t have the money to pay for it.
Janis, who had just 60 cents, then wanted to buy a 98-cent candy bar and the clerk said she’d pay the difference.
As the clerk counted the change Janis had given her, he pulled out a handgun and screamed: “Give me the . . . lighter,” the release said.
Janis also took $120 from the clerk before fleeing the store. Police arrested him 10 days later.
Janis was sentenced Thursday in District Court in Weld County.
