The westbound lanes of Interstate 70 were closed this morning at the Eisenhower Tunnel because of a multivehicle accident.

The accident happened at about 6:40 a.m., said Mark Aultman, a Colorado Department of Transportation spokesman.

The highway reopened at about 8:55 a.m., according to CDOT.

It was snowing lightly at the tunnel, about 60 miles west of Denver, and the snow was sticking to the highway about the time of the accident, Aultman said.

Chain restrictions are being enforced for eastbound commercial vehicles on the west side of the tunnel, Aultman said.

There were no details on injuries, if any, in the multivehicle crash.

Motorists were detoured off of I-70 and used U.S. 6 over Loveland Pass during the shutdown.
