AURORA, Colo.—The Aurora City Council is considering eliminating 140 positions, including 59 that are filled, to help save $8.2 million in next year’s budget.

The plan also includes closing two swimming pools, taking money from the Library and Cultural Services Department and making other cuts, which will reduce the overall budget to $614 million.

The council discussed the proposals in a weekend work session. The council is expected to take a first vote on the budget Oct. 12.

Aurora, an east Denver suburb, is Colorado’s third-largest city with about 315,000 people.
