A gun-wielding man fired one shot inside A & A Imports in Brighton at closing last night and demanded money, but he fled before getting any cash, Brighton police reported today.

John Bradley, spokesman for the Brighton Police Department, said the man approached a female employee of the store as she went to collect a sign from the sidewalk outside and ordered her to return to the store and give him money.

Once inside, the man fired one shot.

No one was injured by the gunfire inside the store at 147 N. Main St.

Another employee chased the gunman northbound on Main Street and through the parking lot of a VFW Post, where the suspect got into a maroon-colored four-door car. The car traveled west on Freedom Way, turning onto northbound Great Western Road. There, the pursuing employee lost sight of the vehicle.

Bradley said he would “heartily advise” store employees to never chase a robber, particularly one armed with a gun that already has been fired.

Anyone with information about the suspect or suspect’s vehicle is asked to call Detective Ron Rodriguez at 303-655-2332.
