SAN ANGELO, Texas — A Texas judge ruled Friday that prosecutors could use thousands of documents seized during a week-long raid of a polygamist sect’s West Texas ranch in upcoming criminal trials even though search warrants were prompted by faked reports of abuse.
The decision will allow jurors to see some of the documents in the upcoming trials of 12 men from a polygamist sect that owns the Yearning for Zion Ranch. The first sect member to face a criminal trial, Raymond Jessop, pleaded not guilty Friday to sexual assault of a child. He is set for an Oct. 26 trial.
